Here's quite a benchmark. Damien Chazelle wrote Whiplash as a feature screenplay, inspired by his own experiences as a young jazz drummer under intense pressure. When he struggled to secure funding, he turned one powerful scene into an 18-minute short film. The short premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, where it won the Short Film Jury Prize and proved the concept to investors. That success unlocked funding for the feature film, starring J. K. Simmons and Miles Teller. Released in 2014, Whiplash became a critical and commercial hit, earning five Oscar nominations and winning three, launching Chazelle’s career and becoming a modern filmmaking success story. Hopebridge and The Actors Studio. Partnership with Waterwaves Radio and the Flavel Arts Centre Dartmouth

Julia and Stephen have set up
The Actors Studio in Dartmouth. It is a community driven creative space where storytelling, acting, and personal growth collide. Inspired by legendary Actors Studio but rooted in Dartmouth, they use their Listening Matters method to connect artists to the characters that emerge from listening work.
The flagship project, Hopebridge is a programme about a community that strives to be sustainable and resilient to economic, social and environmental shock.
The stories will come from listening to people locally and Waterwaves Radio will work with the Actors Studio to create the comedy, tragedy and everything else that might emerge in any community that strives to transform itself in preparation for an uncertain future.
